Healing from white-body supremacy as one pathway to liberation for all

*This workshop series is for white-bodied people. "White-body-the bodies of people of European descent who live in America, who have largely shaped and adapted to its culture, and who don't have dark skin" (Resmaa Menakem, My Grandmother's Hands, p. 16).

healing begins the moment you accept the hurt.

WORKSHOP 1:
WHERE I'M FROM

Come gather with our white-bodied community and share in a creative writing process focused on our journeys through childhood to today. We’ll remember pieces of ourselves in connection to those who came before us and who were around us as we grew. We’ll reflect on who our people are/were, where they came from to be on this land, and the cultural aspects they brought with them which contributed to who we are today. We’ll spend time together holding space for all of the stories and feelings that arise from our reflections and we’ll leave with more clarity regarding where to further lean in for more healing. I hope to see you there!

Here’s what people are saying about Workshop I

Great exercise!

We are already talking about taking this exercise to our staff.

Illuminating.

Some of the ugly things I was reluctant to name were closely correlated with gaps in my knowledge of my history, so it was illuminating to acknowledge those things.

This is a gift.

How cool though how it opens up those around you to have the conversations. It has already opened a conversation with my son. This is a gift.

WORKSHOP 2:
TRAUMA AND WHITE-BODY SUPREMACY

Our white-bodied ancestors created white-body supremacy. We, our white-bodied community today, can dismantle it and co-create a world that roots into dignity, interdependence, mutuality, and liberation for all. What if healing ourselves of past trauma - childhood, intergenerational, and historical - was one pathway to this future world without white-body supremacy? What if healing ourselves within a community context was an essential element of rooting into interdependence with each other? And what if naming ourselves as members of the white-bodied community flooded our bodies with love, compassion, and connection that spilled into mutual relationships with our Black, Indigenous, and Brown community members? If you're curious about these questions too and want to explore them together, please join us for this personal, vulnerable, and embodied conversation.

WORKSHOP 3:

OUR WORLD OF POSSIBILITY

I’ve been imagining a world where everyone feels seen, heard, and valued. A world where all humans’ needs are met. This world is rooted in love, compassion, and connection amongst all human beings. I believe healing is a large part of creating this world; other ways feel fuzzy at the edges, unclear enough for me to actualize into reality.  I believe a limitation to envisioning this world more clearly is me trying to do this alone. This world of possibility needs to be co-created in community. This workshop is a space for us to collectively dream, play, build, and share ideas that could clarify and guide us as a white-bodied collective to do our part.

Workshop Facilitator

"It wasn’t until 2020 that I turned the lens inward to truly examine exactly how the illness of white-body supremacy entered my ancestral lineage and how I could even begin to heal the intergenerational trauma that my people experienced on behalf of the system of white-body supremacy and in turn inflicted on Indigenous, Black, Latine, Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese and other communities of color...and fellow white bodied folx. Examining this history has resulted in some of the deepest healing I’ve experienced thus far, so I now have a dedicated focus to continue that healing as a critical piece of my responsibility to abolish the system of white-body supremacy. I'm striving to build a white bodied community around me also dedicated to their own and ancestral healing. Will you join me?"
