Donnell Adair
MY STORY
I was born and raised in Portland, OR. I’m a third generation African American with familial roots in the south. My middle name is Chocolate and it has nothing to do with my skin color, it is my mother’s family name. I love golfing, hunting, fishing, leading and fighting for justice. My fire for building community and programs that support the success of students of color began at the University of Oregon during my undergraduate program. I served as the co-director of the Black Student Union, the Student Leadership Team for the Office of Multicultural Academic Support, as well as a peer mentorship program. All of these opportunities laid the foundation for my current work as a Restorative Justice Coordinator.
MY WORK
I started my Restorative Justice (RJ) path in 2017 at an elementary school in the Portland Public School District. Once I learned about the principles and philosophy, I began seeing the possibilities for transformation everywhere. I honed my RJ facilitation skills with age groups from kindergartners to grandparents. Restorative Justice has played a part in shaping who I am today as a husband, a father, a son, and a facilitator. I believe the RJ principles of all voices being included and respected and the act of repairing harm are necessary to heal society.
MY INVITATION
If you have experienced harm, or you have caused or witnessed harm, and wish to participate in a process for repair and healing, please reach out to discuss the possibilities Restorative Justice could offer you.
